SEO How We Got Our Client’s Google Business Profile Verified by Text
Setting up a Google Business Profile shouldn’t be this hard, but here we are.
You know the drill: you add your business info, wait forever for a postcard that never comes, or get stuck with that dreaded video verification call. Half the time it doesn’t work anyway.
We just helped a client skip all that nonsense. She got verified via text message in about a minute. No video call, no waiting around for postcards, no headaches.
Here’s what made the difference: we did the prep work first.
Our client wasn’t starting from nothing, but she wasn’t exactly crushing it online either. Basic website, Instagram account, that’s about it. The key was making sure Google could actually find consistent information about her business everywhere it looked.
Think about it from Google’s perspective – they’re trying to figure out if your business is real. If your info is scattered all over the place or barely exists, of course they’re going to make you jump through hoops.
Got her social media sorted first We set up a proper Facebook business page with all her info – name, address, phone, website. Connected it to her Instagram. Nothing fancy, just consistent information in both places.
Added some credibility Created a Better Business Bureau listing. Yeah, it’s kind of old school, but it helps Google see you’re legitimate.
Cleaned up existing listings She already had a couple industry directory listings that were outdated. We fixed those so everything matched.
Made sure her website was consistent Added her business name, address, and phone number to every page footer. Sounds basic, but Google’s bots need to see this stuff clearly.
Connected Google’s tools Set up Google Search Console and Analytics using her business email (not a Gmail account – her actual domain email). This was probably the biggest factor.
Got help from a local reviewer A friend of hers who reviews places on Google Maps added her business manually. Within a few days, she was already showing up in some searches.
Asked for a few reviews Got some of her existing customers to leave honest reviews on the listing before we even claimed it.
Finally claimed the listing Logged into her Google Workspace account, went to claim the listing, and boom – three options popped up: text, phone call, or video. We picked text, got the code immediately, done.
Google doesn’t want to make this difficult just to be difficult. They want to know your business is real. If you give them enough consistent signals beforehand, the verification process is actually pretty smooth.
We’ve done this for several clients now, and the pattern is always the same: do the groundwork first, and Google will usually give you the easy verification option.
Look, this stuff can be frustrating when you’re trying to run a business. If you’re dealing with verification issues or just want to get your local SEO set up properly, we can help. We’ve gotten pretty good at figuring out what’s missing and fixing it quickly.
